(1928–87) a US artist who was a leading figure in the ↑pop art movement in the 1960s. He painted such familiar objects as Campbell's soup cans and dollar ↑bills. Another famous picture consisted of several similar images of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol made a number of long films in which very little happened, including Chelsea Girls (1966). The Andy Warhol Museum in ↑Pittsburgh, where he was born, is said to be the largest museum in the world containing the work of a single artist.
